Marine Detachment

 

The Canopus had nukes so we had a group of Marines to guard them.  There was about 30 of them on board.

   

If the 1MC ever announced "Security Violation!", it meant one thing: hug the nearest bulkhead and get out of the way, as the Marines were going to be flying through.

The C/O Capt Joseph Loughran, was KIA as a Major in May of 68.

Bill Malsch was onboard from December 1971 to December 1973.  The Commanding Officer for the Detachment was Captain Ronald C. Oates (center of photo, standing).
